Re: Learn Windows PowerShell 3 in a Month of Lunches 2nd edition; page 26

    First – excellent book.

Question: On page 26 @ 3.5.1 the output shown for help get-eventlog or help get-eventlog -detailed shows the parameter values. However, the output I get on my test system doesn't include the values.

For example, the following is shown in the example in the book:

    Get-EventLog [-LogName] [[-InstanceId] ] ....

However, the output of the same commands on my Windows 8 system shows only the following:

    Get-EventLog [-LogName] [[-InstanceId]]

Another example. The text shows this for the -ComputerName parameter.

    ...[-ComputerName ]

    My system shows this:

    ...[-ComputerName]

The output of $PsVersionTable on my system is:

    PS C:\> $psversiontable

    Name                           Value
    —-                           —–
    PSVersion                      3.0
    WSManStackVersion              3.0
    SerializationVersion           1.1.0.1
    CLRVersion                     4.0.30319.18046
    BuildVersion                   6.2.9200.16604
    PSCompatibleVersions           {1.0, 2.0, 3.0}
    PSRemotingProtocolVersion      2.2

I can find the information now shown by my system but I wonder what I'm missing here? MOL shows it should be available in the Syntax summary at top of help. Ideas?

    Thanks.

    John

There is ppresently a bug in the help downloads for core commands.  MS is aware.

Thanks Don. And as noted – Excellent book. Thanks for not assuming I'm a programmer 🙂
